When Did Something Feel Unfair?

Students reflect on a real experience of unfairness, identify which kind it was, and consider whether equal, proportional, or needs-based division would have fixed it.

Think about a time when something felt unfair to you.

  • What happened?
  • Was it unfair because things weren't equal — or for a different reason?
  • Looking back: would equal, proportional, or needs-based sharing have fixed it? Or was the problem something else?

Here's a harder one. A school has one tutoring room, and there are only a few open spots each week. Some students are falling behind and really need help. Others are doing fine but want extra help with harder work. Should the students who are falling behind get to sign up first — even if other students already signed up?

  • Which kind of fairness fits here?
  • Who should get to decide?
  • Is there a way to handle this that would feel fair to everyone?
